EAST BAYFIELD OR BAYFIELD LINKS
East Bayfield or Bayfield Links is a large neighbourhood of newer homes bounded by the major arteries of Livingstone Street East and Hanmer Street East, Bayfield Street North, and St. Vincent Street. The major north/south artery through this neighbourhood is Stanley Street which starts at the Barrie/Springwater boundary north of Hanmer Street and continues south past Georgian Mall and the East Bayfield Community Centre to Livingstone Street, the southern boundary of the Bayfield Links community.
History:
Around 1824, the Crown granted land typically a 200 acre parcel to individuals who were found to be worthy and capable of clearing and settling the property. The land on which the Bayfield Links neighbourhood has been developed was previously described using traditional Lot & Concession definitions. For example, Lot 18, Concession 4 of Vespra Township was one of these 200 acre properties, as shown on historical County Of Simcoe maps. It fronted onto what is Bayfield Street today and extended half way to St. Vincent Street, backing onto a similar 200 acre property that fronted onto St. Vincent Street.
Commercial development of the narrow strip along each side of Bayfield Street, north of Livingstone Street East dates to the 1940s and earlier. The land behind this strip of commercial businesses fronting on Bayfield Street remained primarily agricultural until it was developed in the late 1990s. New home builders such as Firstview, Morra, Gregor and Pratt as well as smaller home builders including Karvon, Deer Creek, Helicon, Harmony, Fumo, Marcelli, Witty, and DreamLink started to construct the first houses in the Bayfield Links neighbourhood around 1999.
Schools:
- Terry Fox Public Elementary (Livingstone East between Stanley Street and Michael Crescent)
- Sister Catharine Donnelly Catholic Elementary (Hanmer Street east at Palmer Drive)
Parks:

The East Bayfield Park is located between Terry Fox School on Livingstone Street East and Sister Catherine Donnelly School on Hanmer Street East. This 23.6 acre facility is a popular site for families and for pet owners who want a safe area to walk and exercise their pets.
Shopping & Services:
Located just east of North Barrie's major shopping district "The Golden Mile", has been another reason that Bayfield Links has been a highly sought after neighbourhood. Barrie's "Golden Mile" refers to the malls and businesses fronting on Bayfield Street North from Highway 400 to the Barrie/Springwater boundary just north of Hanmer Street East. Home to three indoor Shopping Centres (Bayfield Mall, Kozlov Centre, and the recently expanded Georgian Mall) as well as many of the major "big box" retailers, major grocery chains, a full-service Home Lumber Building Centre, and boutiques, virtually every amenity is right at your fingertips.
Community Centre:
The East Bayfield Community Centre is a full service facility complete with indoor pool, abundant recreation programs and a complete gym. Walking distance from any point in the Bayfield Links neighbourhood this is another key reason home buyers choose to locate in this trendy neighbourhood.
Barrie Sports Dome:
The Barrie Sports Dome a joint venture with the City of Barrie, is one of the longest Domes in Canada at 350 feet and capable of hosting two activity areas. This gives Barrie Sports Dome the unique ability to run two events simultaneously on its artificial turf. With two sets of range mats it allows golfers to golf on the shorter target range or play trajectory golf while soccer leagues are using the main field/driving range. This excellent neighbourhood resource is adjacent to the East Bayfield Park and walking distance from anywhere in the Bayfield Links community.
Barrie Country Club:
Located on the east end of Hanmer Street East and complete with an exciting new multi-purpose clubhouse facility, this refined and established bastion of Barrie business people continues to be the place to belong in Barrie. Historically, the Barrie Country Club has attracted new members who enjoy both the game and the social interaction in a refined and comfortable executive atmosphere. The clubhouse is an easy walking distance from any point in the Bayfield Links neighbourhood with its attractive selection of downsizer bungalows. Whatever your home buying budget this has been a popular destination for those shifting gears and choosing an "in-town lifestyle".
