Understanding Barrie Neighbourhoods

The City of Barrie has been called one of the fastest growing cities in Canada.  Recently, the Province of Ontario's Place to Grow Strategy named Barrie as a Residential, Industrial, and Commercial growth centre.

Through this designation, in 2010 Barrie was granted the potential to grow through both intensification of its existing land base, as well as, through annexation of the Town of Innisfil.  Through this annexation, City of Barrie will have the capacity to expand into this parcel of agriculturally-zoned land along its current (2010) south-east perimeter.

Intensification is and will continue to be the focus of Barrie in the near term with a population growth of approximately 40,000 to be accomodated within the current City of Barrie boundaries.  The exciting aspect of this initiative will be to spark significant renewal of older parcels of industial or commercial lands where redeployment to residential housing may be the highest and best use.

Barrie Neighbourhoods:

  1. North Barrie
  2. South West Barrie
  3. South East Barrie
  4. East Barrie
  5. Downtown

Although such categorization can be somewhat helpful, where are all the other Barrie neighbourhoods that we may hear about.  Where is Allandale, or Kingswood, or Painswick, or Riverwood, or Tall Trees, and how about Tall Oaks or Chapel Hill.  You get the point!

Over time, an overview of many of these Barrie neighbourhoods will evolve including some history of the area, as well as, other helpful information that home buyers, in particular, are interested in.
